BOSS platform

In order to provide adequate support to students, teachers and researchers, and enable successful creation and transfer of innovation from academia to private sector, University of Belgrade, META Group and University of Liège have been working diligently on development of new intellectual outputs for the past several months.

The result of these efforts is an open, multilingual and web-based platform (BOSS platform) which is comprised of Business opportunity self-assessment tool, Business opportunity development planning toll, Business opportunity disclosure form, and a number of educational materials available in video and pdf format.

All interested parties are welcome to visit the platform (https://bossplatform.rect.bg.ac.rs/) , register, utilize tools, and provide their feedback by using the embedded evaluation forms.

BOSS presented to Academic Newcomers

The University of Belgrade has developed a training program consisting of 7 modules for new academics (Ph.D. students, assistants, junior professors, post-docs of not more than three years work experience) which aims to build the knowledge, skills, motivation, and confidence to enhance their practice in ways that will improve learning, research and their contribution to society and industry. This program, Training & Research for Academic Newcomers -TRAIN also aims to improve collaboration among new academics, expanding their networks and enhancing their capacity for educational leadership, enabling them to positively influence change.

During the training session on entrepreneurship, which was held on January 31st, Tamara Čolić Milosavljević had the opportunity to talk about the BOSS project and tools developed to stimulate teachers’, researchers’ and students’ ability to initiate and carry out entrepreneurial projects, ranging from opportunity recognition to opportunity exploitation.

Tamara presented the BOSS platform to participants, discussed the possibilities and benefits of utilization of different tools and educational materials, and invited them to register on the platform.

BOSS presented to management and representatives of the University of Belgrade

In order to present the BOSS project and its results to representatives of the University of Belgrade Faculties and Scientific Institutes, BOSS team members participated in two meetings organized at the University of Belgrade Rectorate during December 2019.

First, at the meeting of vice-deans for science held on December the 2nd, Nedeljko Milosavljevic took the opportunity to demonstrate the business opportunity self-assessment tool, the business opportunity development planning tool and the BOSS platform, and to discuss the potential of these intellectual outputs for development of entrepreneurial mindset in students, teachers, and researchers.

Next, on December the 12th, during the meeting of the Senate of the University of Belgrade, which is the highest professional body of the University consisting of 44 members: the Rector, 4 Vice-Rectors from the rank of Full Professors, 31 Deans of Faculties, 4 Presidents of the Faculty Group Councils, and 4 Directors of Scientific Institutes, attendees had the opportunity to learn more about the BOSS project and tools that were developed from Tamara Čolić Milosavljević.

Besides the information about developed intellectual outputs and the potential of their utilization, attendees of both meetings were introduced to the upgraded UB procedure, which includes work on the BOSS platform as one of the steps that researchers need to take in the process of IP commercialization.

Educational material

In order to provide adequate support to students, teachers and researchers and enable successful creation and transfer of innovation from academia to private sector, BOSS project partners have developed a number of learning materials.

This Intellectual Output will enable users to actively learn about entrepreneurial thinking, business opportunity development models and main topics: Technology, Intellectual Property, Unique Value Proposition, Team, Market, Financials, Partners, Problem /Solution Fit, and Impact.

Combined use of educational material available online in different forms (PDF, video), together with the Business opportunity self-assessment tool and the Business opportunity development planning tool will maximize the learning effects.

BOSS presented at the WIPO advanced regional training program

During the advanced training program “IP Institutional Policies: Challenges in Adoption and Implementation”, organized on 5th and 6th of November in Belgrade, participants had the opportunity to learn about topics related to IP Institutional Policies, Socially Responsible Knowledge Transfer, Impact from Publicly-Funded Research and more. During her lecture on Business Idea Validation, Tamara Čolić Milosavljević talked about the importance of business opportunity support system and presented intellectual outputs developed within BOSS project in order to enable successful creation and transfer of innovation from academia to private sector.

Event was organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia and the Center for Technology Transfer of University of Belgrade.

 

BOSS presented at the EU-China Business and Technology Cooperation Fair

The EU-China Business and Technology Cooperation Fair is one of the largest business festivals in China for EU-China investment, trade, and technology, which gathered around 1,500 representatives of companies, state/regional governments, clusters, business associations, EU-China Cooperation experts, universities, R&D institutions from west and north China, the European Commission, EEN partners, and European countries who were seeking potential collaboration and partnerships with their counterparts.

This year, it took place in Chengdu and Qingdao, two vital strategic cities of north and west China, the first phase in Chengdu from 11th to 13th of November, and the second phase in Qingdao from 14th to 15th of November.

On 14th of November, Nedeljko Milosavljevic had the opportunity to present the University of Belgrade and the initiatives focused on support of entrepreneurship and academia-industry collaboration. He talked about the importance of business opportunity support system for the whole process of knowledge transfer, and shortly presented BOSS project and innovative methods which are being developed in order to enable successful creation and transfer of innovation from academia to private sector.

BOSS presented in Belarus

Participants of the National Seminar on IP Management in the Contemporary Economic and Technological Circumstances, held on 22nd of October in Polotsk, had the opportunity to hear more about topics related to knowledge transfer and IP commercialization. During his lecture on necessary preconditions for efficient IP Management in Universities and Research Institutions, Nedeljko Milosavljevic emphasized the importance of business opportunity support system and presented innovative methods which are being developed within BOSS project in order to enable successful creation and transfer of innovation from academia to private sector.

Dr. Milosavljevic also participated as a lecturer at the Regional Workshop on IP Policies for Universities and Research Institutions, held on 23rd and 24th in Minsk, where he talked about challenges in Implementation of IP Policies in Universities and Research Institutions. During his lecture and roundtable discussion with colleagues from Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Portugal, Russian Federation, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey and Uzbekistan, he took the opportunity to address the importance of business opportunity support system and to shortly present BOSS project.

Both events were organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the National Center of Intellectual Property of Belarus (NCIP).

BOSS presented in China

During his visit to China, Nedeljko Milosavljevic presented BOSS project and its results on two occasions.

First, the project was presented during the 22nd China Beijing International High-tech Expo 2019 Beijing International Forum on Technical Services Conceptual Scheme, organized on 27th of October in Beijing, China. Dr. Milosavljevic had the opportunity to address the public and talk about activities focused on scientific and technological innovation cooperation as an important driving force for the development of science and technology in the world.

The event was supported by China Association for Science and Technology, The People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, and hosted and organized by China Centre for International Science and Technology Exchange, Organizing Committee Office of China Beijing International High-tech Expo, China Technology Exchange, International Technology Transfer Network (ITTN) and Coway International TechTrans Co., Ltd.

Besides leaders of China Association for Science and Technology, representatives of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and other authorities, the guest were also representatives of foreign universities, scientific research institutions, technology transfer industry organizations, innovation and entrepreneurship investment organizations, and industry organizations; representatives of winning projects in China- Italy and China- Germany Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.

Also, on 28th of October during training “TT Fundamentals”, organized in Zhengzhou, BOSS project results which are being developed in order to enable successful creation and transfer of innovation from academia to private sector, were presented to future TT professionals

Business Opportunity Development Planning Tool

The Business Opportunity Development planning tool was developed within the BOSS project by the University of Belgrade, the University of Liege and META Group. Despite the variety of existing instruments and solutions, we believe there is a missing link between research and industry and our tool aims to strengthening the ties between the two worlds.

This tool is aimed at encouraging entrepreneurial thinking and supporting students, researchers and teachers in framing and enhancing their business opportunities.

Appropriate for one user as well as for groups of students, researchers or teachers to jointly sketch and discuss business opportunity elements, this tool offers users the possibility to validate business opportunity value with market, technical and business validators and identify commercialization potential.

Transnational Project Meeting in Belgrade

Transnational Project Meeting of the Erasmus+ BOSS project was held on October 17th and 18th, 2019 in Belgrade. Team members from project partner institutions University of Belgrade, University of Liège and META Group Srl have participated in the meeting.

The first part of the meeting, held on October 17th was dedicated to overview of implemented activities and achieved results (Project Management and Implementation and Intellectual Outputs) during the period from July to October 2019. Steering Committee meeting was also organized during this part of the project meeting and the discussion was focused on further steps and potential changes in implementation of the project activities.

During the second part of the meeting, project partners were focused on creation of educational video materials (O3/A2 activity) with the assistance of service provider.

The second day of the meeting was also devoted to implementation of O3/A2 activity. Based on instructions provided by project partners, shoot material will be edited by service provider in the following days, and published online.
